Opportunities to Assist with Worship

Scripture Reader Invitation

While we know you love to see our Pastors every Sunday during our online services, we couldn’t help but notice your excitement when your UCCH friends’ faces appear too. We’re excited to offer an open invitation to others who want to feel the joy of participation in our virtual services.

Anyone who would like to read Scripture is invited. All you have to do is select the date you’ll read and sign up using SignUp Genius. We will provide the scripture text and easy instructions for recording yourself with your device at home.

We can’t wait to see you! Contact Louise with any questions.

Following are some of the ways you can assist with worship when we are gathering in person:

Ushers

Ushering teams greet people, serve communion, collect offering, and help make our church a warm and welcoming place. Ushering is an excellent way to meet people and to participate in the church community.

Readers

If you are interested in reading the scriptures during worship, indicate your desire on the “Friendship Register” or speak with one of the pastors.

Bell Ringers

Children, youth and adults may serve as bell ringers, ringing the hour at the start of the worship service.

Altar Flowers

The responsibility for the flowers and altar decorations that enrich our Sunday worship lies with the flower committee. Members of the congregation may ask for specific dates to memorialize or honor someone or to commemorate special events like a birth or an anniversary.  You may make your own arrangements or have members of United Church’s flower committee decorate for you.

Counters

Two counters count the offering after each service, provide the Business Manager with the data, and deposit the offering in the bank. At least one counter must be a current or former Trustee.

Advent Reflections Booklet

Our annual Advent Devotional contains daily reflections written by members of our congregation.

Advent Wreath Lighting

Each year we celebrate the Advent Season through the lighting of Advent candles and reading of devotionals at the beginning of worship. Families, individuals, and groups are welcome to participate.

Stories of Transformation

Occasionally throughout the year, lay people are invited to share a story of transformation in worship – a time when your life was changed by God’s grace.
