Leap of Faith is a Tony-nominated musical loosely based on a 1992 movie starring Steve Martin. Its premise is very similar to The Music Man except that instead of selling boys’ bands, the con involves selling miracles. When his traveling ministry breaks down in a small Kansas town, Jonas Nightingale, part-time reverend and full-time con artist, quickly pitches a tent and invites the locals to three nights of pocket-emptying revivals. It is here in Sweetwater where Jonas finally meets his match, Sheriff Marla McGowan, who is trying to protect her rain-starved farm town and wheelchair user son. It is a story about redemption and restoring faith to those who have lost their way. The music was written by 8-time Oscar winner Alan Menken who penned such classics as Little Shop of Horrors and Beauty and the Beast. The music is pure Gospel (with a little country thrown in) and will have you jumping up, clapping your hands, and shouting “Hallelujah!” by the end.
Direction/Choreography – Chip Baker; Music Direction/Orchestral Conductor – Milo Fryling.
