“Creating with the Creator”

This year’s program includes:

An Eco-Justice Summit with Reverend Karen Richardson-Dunn

Jenny Shultz and the UCCH youth have invited UCC Minister Karen Richardson-Dunn from Asheville to present on the theme of Developing an Eco-Conscious Faith. She has recently put together an Environmental Justice Network in the Southern Conference and will be working with churches to respond to the environmental crisis in which we are currently living. During the retreat the youth participants, and adults who wish to join in, will participate in a World Climate Change (mock UN) Summit that utilizes a real-time online simulator to assist with negotiations on reducing green house gases and carbon emissions.

“Painting and Meditation”

Rinnie Orr, church member, will lead an art session “Painting and Meditation” and will examine the connection between the artistic process and communing with the Spirit. This will be a 3 hour painting class, with acrylics. Supplies will be included. Please bring appropriate clothing for painting.

Creating “Soul Boxes”

Cely Chicurel will lead a three hour pottery class. The focus will be to design and create clay boxes by rolling out the clay and forming a base, sides, and lid. We will have different textures for people to use for decoration. All the pieces made will be brought back to church to be fired and glazed. Pick up of the finished boxed will in two weeks after the retreat!! Come join us as we enjoy a relaxing and fun time together!
