Old North State Brass, www.oldnorthstatebrass.org, will perform a benefit concert at United Church of Chapel Hill, Friday, October 3 at 7:30 PM.
The ensemble began meeting regularly in January of 2009, and they have quickly developed a repertoire of music that encompasses classical, jazz, sacred and popular styles. The ensemble is directed by Peter Boor, himself a trumpet player and long-time high school and college band director from New Jersey who retired with his wife to the Triangle. Many of the arrangements the ONSB performs were originally written for the British Brass Band instrumentation, or have been specially arranged for this smaller combination. ONSB uses instruments that would be found in the typical British Brass Band: E-flat and B-flat cornets, flugelhorn, tenor horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and a variety of percussion instruments.
An offering will be received to support the Chapel Hill/Carrboro Peacemaking Scholarships, awarded each year to graduating seniors based on their activism, academic study and career goals related to non-violent conflict resolution and social justice.
