LAUDATO SI’ with Herman Greene Pope Francis’s encyclical, “Laudato Si’ On Care for Our Common Home” calls the whole world to ecological conversion. It is path breaking in linking care for Earth and care for the poor, in its teaching on integral ecology, and in its ecumenicity. It is perhaps the most important document ever written calling for moral and spiritual values in care for Earth and all its beings. It, along with the coming UN Summit to adopt the Sustainable Development Goals on September 25-27, the Parliament of World Religions in Salt Lake City, October 15-19, and the Paris climate conference of November 30-December 11, may make 2015 a turning point in human-Earth relations.  Herman Greene will lead a discussion of the encyclical. STORIES OF LOVE, MUSIC OF HOPE (The Moth Radio Hour comes to United Church) with Susan Steinberg  and Jenny Anderson During this intergenerational gathering we will be treated to an uplifting combination of touching, funny, memorable stories and hopeful music.  Personal stories, biblical stories and tall tales will all be included. Each evening we'll focus on a particular theme, though all the stories will be connected through the overriding message of love's triumph. In between stories we'll listen to the songs of some of our congregation's many fine singers and instrumentalists.  We'll concentrate on these particular themes: creatures we adore; friends in unexpected places; family life; the best gift ever.
