Kitchen Stewards support the worship ministry of the church by providing food and beverage hospitality on Sunday mornings and during important programs throughout the church year. They assure that the kitchen and adjacent service areas are clean and ready for ministry after each day of worship or major program event.

Essential Functions

  • Participate in monthly planning meetings with the Director of Hospitality Ministries to set the work schedule and keep the kitchen inventory.
  • Communicate proactively about availability for work and work with the DHM to assure that all shifts are covered.
  • Serve coffee and other refreshments from approximately 8:15 am to 12:30 pm during the program year. During the summer, coffee service is from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm.
    • Set out mugs, sugar, spoons, cream, etc. according to instruction by the Director of Hospitality Ministry
  • Set up, monitor, and clean up for hospitality programs that run between and during worship services, especially in the 10 am hour on Sundays
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen during and after major programs so that the space is always ready for ministry.
    • Significant cleanup responsibilities include but are not limited to: emptying trash after worship services, wipeing down kitchen and service counters and tables in the fellowship hall, washing dishes, cleaning refrigerators and freezers, disposing of food, composting of coffee grounds, cleaning stoves, cleaning the coffee grinder, sweeping and mopping in the kitchen and fellowship hall, light bathroom cleaning.
    • Kitchen Stewards are responsible to make sure the main bathrooms in the fellowship hall are serviceable on Sunday mornings and during major programs, so they may need to clean sinks, empty trash, replenish paper towels or toilet paper, etc.
  • Occasionally maintain cleanliness of downstairs kitchenette when it is used for programming.
  • Maintain inventory of kitchen and cleaning supplies.
  • Provide kitchen service for memorial services as needed, typically scheduled midday on weekdays and Saturdays.
  • Provide kitchen service for special programs and meetings of the church, typically held on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
