Youth Speak: Never Again

United Church of Chapel Hill 1321 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Chapel Hill, NC, United States

Once again, the national sickness of gun violence is weighing heavily on our spirits, threatening to overwhelm us with fear and hopelessness. And once again, youth are speaking out, telling the truth about their suffering and frustration while courageously imagining another way. On the evening of Wednesday March 14th, United Church will gather to listen, deeply and well, to the voices of our young people. Join us from 6:30 to 7:30pm in the Assembly Hall as we receive the testimony of our youth, lighting candles for victims of gun violence. Together we will name the sins of gun violence and gun idolatry, grounding ourselves in the divine promise of healing and restoration. Together, we will remember our call: to act with great love as God's hands and feet in the world, seeking transformative justice and peace. Contact Youth Director Katherine Henderson with questions: khenderson@unitedchurch.org.

Franklin St. Chapel Hill Co-sponsored by Youth Choirs of United Church of Chapel Hill and University United Methodist Church, Chapel Hill The award-winning youth choir, Vivida Banda (“Rasselbunde” in German, or “A Gang of Rascals”) from St. Peters Church in Weinheim, Germany, will begin their U.S. tour this summer with a concert at University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill. They will present a varied program of music of Germany, England, and the United States, from Schubert to Josh Groban. Vivida Banda regularly sings in services and concerts in and around Weinheim, which is near Mannheim. Vacation Bible School + Music Camp: Who is My Neighbor?

United Church of Chapel Hill 1321 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Chapel Hill, NC, United States

July 22-26, Half day (9am-12pm) or Full day (9am-3pm) Neighbors are more than people who live next door. Neighbors are more than people in our families or communities. Through five carefully chosen Bible stories, Who Is My Neighbor VBS leads children on a journey to discover more about God's great love. From looking at how to be a neighbor to diving into what it means to live out our faith, this interactive VBS series will lead children deeply into Bible stories focused on God's care and compassion for neighbors close at hand and around the world. Join us as we discover neighbors near and far! We are combining our traditional Handbell Camp and VBS this year, so each child will have a chance to ring, sing, drum and make lots of music! The children will share the music they learned in worship on Sunday, July 28 at the 9:30 a.m. service. VBS is for children age 3 to rising 6th graders. Any child may opt for the half day program. Rising 1st through 6th graders have the option of the full day program. Suggested donation for the week is $30 for half day (with a $60 per family maximum) and $60 for full day (with a $120 per family maximum). Rising 7th grade to high school graduates are encouraged to volunteer for VBS and participate in the advanced handbell choir. REGISTER HERE
