Friends, Reverends Susan Steinberg and David Mateo invite the congregation to a special, child-friendly prayer service, tomorrow night, Thursday, August 17, 6 pm at United Church. The purpose is to send Christian love out into the world through prayer, reflection on scripture and music. Following the guidance of Traci Blackmon, we will: Pray for our nation and the people of Charlottesville in particular. Pray for the wounded. The healers. The witnesses. The warriors. Pray for the families of those who have died. And for the dead inside. And call out white supremacy by name and rebuke it in the name of Jesus. Join us to light candles, sing child friendly music and lift up prayers. Following the service, which we want to keep to about 30 minutes, people are invited to join us in the Fellowship Hall to make paper hearts as a symbol of sending love. We will send the hearts to the UCC church in Charlottesville and to Reverend Traci Blackmon, Executive Minister of Justice & Witness Ministries of the UCC, who was on the front line in Charlottesville. Please bring your glitter pens, any special paper, and your messages of love, hope and peace. You are also encouraged to write a special message of love to anyone who would be uplifted by a love note, including someone with whom you've had a disagreement. Please join us!
An Interested Person’s Gathering Are you new to United Church and have been wanting to know more about our ministries and programs. If so, this gathering is for you. The UCCH choirs have been travelling this summer and can't wait to tell you all about it! The Youth Choir attended Montreat Worship and Music Conference, and members of UVoP, Youth and Chancel Choirs visited two wonderful host congregations in Germany. Slide shows, art exhibit, and music included!
We will continue discussing responses to the Aug 12 events in Charlottesville, as well as Tema Okun's recent talk, "Our Stake as White People in Racial Equity." Please join us!
Worship with us and then join in our “Welcome Back Cookout.” We will begin at 11 am for those who worship at 8:45 and will still be at the grill after the 11 and 11:15 am services.
