Friends, Reverends Susan Steinberg and David Mateo invite the congregation to a special, child-friendly prayer service, tomorrow night, Thursday, August 17, 6 pm at United Church. The purpose is to send Christian love out into the world through prayer, reflection on scripture and music. Following the guidance of Traci Blackmon, we will: Pray for our nation and the people of Charlottesville in particular. Pray for the wounded. The healers. The witnesses. The warriors. Pray for the families of those who have died. And for the dead inside. And call out white supremacy by name and rebuke it in the name of Jesus. Join us to light candles, sing child friendly music and lift up prayers. Following the service, which we want to keep to about 30 minutes, people are invited to join us in the Fellowship Hall to make paper hearts as a symbol of sending love. We will send the hearts to the UCC church in Charlottesville and to Reverend Traci Blackmon, Executive Minister of Justice & Witness Ministries of the UCC, who was on the front line in Charlottesville. Please bring your glitter pens, any special paper, and your messages of love, hope and peace. You are also encouraged to write a special message of love to anyone who would be uplifted by a love note, including someone with whom you've had a disagreement. Please join us!
